Month: April 2022

Sustainability week at Groupe Somavrac

Siège social

For its 4th edition, the environment week changed its title to become the Sustainability Week to cover all the spheres of sustainable development. From April 18 to 22, 2022, several activities were held to promote the benefits of sustainable development in everyday life: a guide of tips to achieve a more sustainable lifestyle, a contest, a workshop on seedlings as well as a game of differences were organized for the employees.

Sustainability Activities

To kick off Sustainability Week, a guide of tips for achieving a more sustainable lifestyle was sent to all employees. Each page of the guide contained small habit changes for our employees at work and at home. Among these changes, here are the main topics put forward:

  • Optimizing building use: reducing room temperature, turning off lights, changing light bulbs to LEDs.
  • Sustainable mobility: optimize travel, give preference to active and public transportation.
  • Reduction of residual materials: avoid single-use items, recycle batteries, compost.
  • Reduction of digital pollution: limit the sending of emails, unsubscribe from unread newsletters, use an engaged search engine.
  • Integration of sustainability in daily life: have a sustainable approach in daily life, tend to less waste, grow your own vegetable garden.

The goal of our contest is to offer employees an opportunity to concretize their ideas to improve the company’s habits to make them more sustainable. Following this contest, two ideas will be implemented: the addition of a compost for the 3rd floor of the head office and the implementation of a carpooling program to optimize travel to our various terminals from the head office.

Then, a workshop was held on Wednesday at noon to offer interested employees the chance to learn more about how harvest a vegetable garden. After a theoretical training, the employees put put themselves to work and planted between 5 and 10 seedlings that they could take home for their garden.

To end this sustainability week, a game of differences illustrating the effects of human activities on ecosystems was sent to employees.
