Application: Ethylene glycol is used:

  • As an antifreeze [coolant] or heat transfer fluid for automotive radiators, industrial cooling systems and aircraft de-icing
  • As raw material in the synthesis of polyester fiber, films and resins
  • As a solvent in latex paints, inks and adhesives
  • As a dehydrating agent in the treatment of natural gas
  • In pharmaceutical formulations, as a substitute for glycerin
  • In the preparation of hydraulic transmission fluids
  • In the production of polyethylene terephthalate polyester [plastic material mainly used in the manufacture of bottles]
  • In the manufacture of explosives
