Application: Sulfuric acid is by far the most used of industrial chemicals. It is used in great volumes in

  • The manufacture of fertilizers
  • The manufacture of pigments, including titanium dioxide
  • Mineral processing (leaching of non-ferrous ores, especially copper)
  • Stripping in steelmaking and surface cleaning in steel production
  • The production of hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid
  • Petroleum refining, whether in purification or alkylation processes
  • The pulp and paper industry
  • The synthetic textile industry, including rayon [also known as viscose]
  • The explosives industry
  • The production of detergents
  • Water treatment: used to reduce the soil pH in farm-market agriculture
